Dear Hutchings Community,
It's spring, and new fun opportunities are a part of the changing seasons at Hutchings!
Tuesday was an exciting evening. Our Begindergarten and Kindergarten Teachers and some other staff members hosted BK/Kindergarten Information Night! Some future Huskies were given the opportunity to explore Hutchings for the first time! They did a Husky Hunt to find all of their specials classrooms and other places they'll grow an learn in between now and the end of fifth grade. It almost seems too early to think about next school year, but it's exciting to think about how far all of our students have come as we anticipate a new wave of Huskies joining us.
March is reading month, and Mrs. Deurloo organized some incredible guest readers for our building. We had our members of our Howell Central Office Administration and School Board, Deputy Marino, the Mayor of Howell, and Coach Lewis amongst our celebrity readers! It's obvious how much this community values literacy, and great to have so many adults reinforcing that message.
Senior Survivor is underway, raising money for the Livingston County Animal Shelter! You can learn all about it at the official Senior Survivor Website! I want to applaud the Junior Survivors coming from Hutchings - Vivienne J and Charley S. They will be working hard to support this cause along with our Staff Survivors, Mrs. Buckingham and Ms. Viau! Some of the Senior and Middle Survivors are Hutchings alumni, too- shout outs to Middle Survivors Cheyenne B., Marlowe C., and Lola R. and Senior Survivors MacKenzi Duthie, Emily Erickson, Grace Pagett, Kennedy Wolfe who came through these Hutchings hallways and developed strong leadership skills. Look for opportunities to participate this spring with our Survivors. There's a lot of fun planned!
And our Music programs with Ms. Shultz begin soon, too! BK, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade Spring Concerts begin next week! I know that Ms. Shultz and her students were busy practicing on the risers in anticipation. If you aren't sure what day your Husky's Spring Performance is, please contact your teacher!
Also, our Girls on the Run program begins next week, too. It is a fabulous and uplifting experience that connects our staff and students annually. Based on this week's weather, I hope our runners to are prepared to wear shorts or snowpants on any given day. Sheesh!
Another great part of spring is opportunities to take learning outside the classroom, too. A lot of field trips are on the horizon for students. Today, for example, Mrs. Derocher's Begindergarten classroom visited the Construction I class at the high school as a part of their construction unit! Other grade levels have trips on the horizon, too. It's inspiring to think about all the ways our students can learn in and out of the classroom.
Finally, I want to thank the students in the Howell High School Leadership classes. Ms. DiNatalie has sent her entire class to Hutchings, and plans to continue doing it this month. They are reading with students during reading month, helping with decorations for the building, and supporting some of our spring garden work, too.
It's certainly a lot to be grateful for. Enjoy your weekends everyone!
