Dear Hutchings Community,
It's been a lot of fun at Hutchings Elementary School this week. One of the real highlights was that the Grinch came and visited our classrooms - the actual Grinch. I know there's an old saying, "Never meet your heroes", but it's certainly fun having the Grinch around. His story is a reminder that we can all grow, we can all change, and we all have more capacity for compassion.
The Grinch always reminds me of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, which provides us with the same lessons. I was a second grader when one of my two favorite holiday movies, A Muppet Christmas Carol was released. It's a pitch perfect blend of Muppet antics, fantastic music, and enduring messages about how we can all be better for one another with thankful hearts. I know I'll have it on again before this holiday season is over.
And speaking of a thankful heart, I want to extend lots of gratitude toward Mari Schippers. Her last day as our art teacher was today. We had a lot to be excited about with the upcoming break, and celebrating Mrs. Schippers was a fun part of the festivities. In my first week as principal, I remember meeting Mrs. Schippers as she prepared to paint husky paw prints on the sidewalks and crosswalks. She's helped fill our hallways with fantastic student art and been a true friend. We wish her all the best!
I hope that you will have many opportunities in the coming days to reconnect with those who matter most to you. I wish you all a safe, lovely, and magical holiday break.
Sincerely,
Ben Malecki
Principal

District Updates:
Save the Date: Pathways to Future Ready
Families with children ages three to five are invited to Pathways to Future Ready, an early education information night on Tuesday, January 20, at 6 p.m. at the Rod Bushey Performing Arts Center. During the event, families will learn about all of the district’s early learning options, including three-year-old preschool, Pre-K for All (four-year-old preschool), Begindergarten, Kindergarten, and Academia Bilingüe, the district’s Spanish Immersion program. This is a great opportunity to learn more and ask questions before registration opens. We look forward to seeing you on January 20.
Holiday Break
This year, our Holiday Break runs from Monday, December 22, through Friday, January 2, with classes resuming on Monday, January 5. During the break, our school office and the district office hours will be adjusted to accommodate the holiday schedule. If you need to visit our school or the district office during the break, please call ahead to confirm the office is open on the day of your planned visit.

Wishing You a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
As the break begins, we hope your days are filled with moments of connection, rest, and joy. This is a wonderful time to slow down, enjoy time with friends and family, and give your self permission to pause - no rushing required.
As author Victoria Erickson reminds us:
“Just a reminder that you don’t have to make resolutions, or huge decisions, or big proclamations. You can just set some sweet intentions and take each day as it comes.”
May this season offer you exactly what you need. We look forward to welcoming our students back refreshed in the new year.
Warm holiday wishes,
Kristen Kinney
