Dear Hutchings Community,
Inside the walls of Hutchings, our students are showing off how much they know. They’re taking on M-STEP and NWEA Assessments, and we’re proud of their continued commitment. Next week also marks the last week of Willodeen! We hope you’ve enjoyed the One Book, One School experience.
As great as we are in our classrooms, I’m excited about some of the things our Huskies are doing outside.
The Hutchings is a peaceful oasis, and we’re all grateful for the time and energy that Ms. Derocher and Ms. Kosin pour into it. Last Saturday, they were joined by a number of Huskies with greenthumbs (or is it greenpaws?) for a Power Hour Garden Cleanup. There are a few new features in this year’s garden, and most of the plants are still in their greenhouses. I need to find a few power hours to pour into my own yard, but it’s great to see our community come together in our Hutchings Garden.
We also had a terrific turnout this past Tuesday for our Girls on the Run Mock 5k. Our runners and coaches pushed themselves in preparation for tomorrow’s Girls on the Run 5k Road Race in Plymouth! Thanks to all of the families who’ve supported our runners and everyone on staff who’s running alongside them. Special thanks to Ms. Buckingham for leading such an exemplary chapter of GOTR, too.
I included some pictures of our outdoor-loving Hutchings students. I plan on spending plenty of this weekend outside myself.
Finally, next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. I want to thank the dedicated teachers at Hutchings for making our elementary school such a remarkable place. Thanks in advance to our PTO for their work in recognizing and celebrating them.
Have a lovely weekend.

Counselor's Corner:
As we enter the home stretch of the school year, it’s common for students to feel distracted or restless. Here are a few simple ways you can support your child at home to help them remain focused and finish the year on a positive note:
-
Keep a Routine: Even though the end is near, sticking to regular bedtime, homework, and screen time routines helps maintain structure and consistency.
-
Set Small Goals: Help your child set a short-term goal for each week — like turning in all assignments or showing CARE behavior daily — and celebrate progress.
-
Talk About It: Ask your child how they’re feeling about the end of the year. Talking it out can relieve stress and refocus their energy.
-
Encourage Breaks and Movement: A little fresh air, physical activity, or quiet time after school can go a long way in helping students reset.
-
Positive Reinforcement: Recognize and praise your child for effort, responsibility, or kindness — even the small wins matter!
Let’s work together to help our Huskies soar all the way to the finish line!
Enjoy your weekend!
