Dear Hutchings Community,
This week was busy at Hutchings Elementary School. Let me share some highlights:
- 5th graders had visitors twice this week. On Monday, Dr. Moore and Dr. Poelke visited to talk about what life will be like for these future middle schoolers at Highlander Way and Three Fires. On Thursday, Parker's band and choir visited so 5th graders could think about which musical electives to take next year.
- Girls on the Run started this week. Enough 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls are participating to let us have TWELVE staff members coaching, include Mrs. Buckingham!
- A group of students enjoyed their Reaching Higher Graduation on Tuesday evening with Mrs. Kinney and FIVE fabulous mentors from across the community!
- On Wednesday, we had PTO's Husky Skate Night at Rollerama and more than 150 people attended! It was great to get moving!
- Parent/Teacher Conferences were last night, and it was great to connect with parents and share the successes of the year.
- Mrs. Deurloo has gone to great lengths to coordinate a guest reader for EVERY classroom for Reading Month. We had visits from Coach Lewis, Superintendent MacGregor, School Board President Tarara, and Sensei Sam, to name a few)
- High school leadership students AND football players have come to read with our students, too!
I'm going into this weekend feeling exhausted, but it's a good kind of exhausted. When I reflect on all the fun, opportunities, and problem-solving we do day-in and day-out, I'm once again proud to be part of this community.
Next week has more fun in store, especially as we ramp up our Senior Survivor efforts and get ready to launch One Book, One School! I am really looking forward to Spring Break and, considering all that's happening, it will feel particularly earned!
Sincerely,
Ben Malecki
Principal

MI Student Voice Family Perception Survey
If you have not yet completed the MI Student Voice Family Perception Survey, please take a few moments to do so. The survey is anonymous, takes approximately 10 minutes, and can be completed on a computer, tablet, or mobile device. While participation is voluntary, we strongly encourage all families to take part, as your input is invaluable in helping us improve our schools and district. The survey provides insights into our strengths and areas for growth, guiding our district’s improvement planning. To complete the survey, visit https://bit.ly/41rE1YJ. The survey will remain open through Friday, March 28.
Music Elective Choice for Incoming Sixth Graders
On March 10, 2025, Dr. Poelke and Dr. Moore had the pleasure of speaking with all incoming 6th-grade students to introduce them to middle school and explain how it works. One of the topics discussed was the choice between Band and Choir. Your 5th-grade student will have the opportunity to request Band, Choir, or neither for the upcoming school year. 5th-grade teachers will share a Google Form with students during the school day to make their selection. If you were unable to attend the presentation, the building slideshows are listed below.
