Dear Hutchings Community,
It's fun to be so close to a break. I'm excited about spending quality time with family and friends over the next few weeks, and I hope they hold a lot of special moments for you, too.
Thanks to all of the people who made our PTO Holiday Shop such a hit this week. In particular, thanks to Ashley Mahler who really helped orchestrate the event.
There are a couple of major highlights coming soon in 2024 that I want to share:
- Members of our staff actually come into Hutchings over break and transform our school for One Book, One School. Last year, we came back to some great Wild Robot decor! I can't wait to see how school looks in January.
- At our December staff meeting, we were visited by Sensei Sam from Ohana Karate in Howell. In addition to running his dojo, Sensei Sam has been leading students throughout Livingston County in lessons that develop their courage, self-discipline, and humility. Our staff does such a great job with emotional learning for students, but Sensei Sam will begin helping us, too! He is coming to Hutchings for his first of three assemblies on January 19!
- Roo! We still don't know exactly when, but Mrs. Jilek-Wolfe has been working on plans for whenever Roo is done with her Therapy Dog school! She visited Southwest Elementary to see how their dog, Wylie, works with the Coyote students. Then, she visited Northwest Elementary to see how Talon works with the students there.
It's been a wonderful 2023 at Hutchings Elementary. Thank you all for being a part of our community. Please have a lovely break!
Sincerely,
Ben Malecki

District Updates:
Holiday Break
This year, our Holiday Break runs from Monday, December 25, through Friday, January 5, with classes resuming on Monday, January 8. During the break, our office and district office hours will be adjusted to accommodate the holiday schedule. If you need to visit our school of the district office during the break, please call before visiting to ensure the office is open on the day of your planned visit.
District-wide Food Drive a Huge Success
We are thrilled to share the remarkable results of the recent district-wide food drive supporting Gleaners Community Food Bank. The community's generosity has been overwhelming, with 14,648 pounds of food donated and $9,091.633 in monetary donations. The monetary contributions were matched on Giving Tuesday, doubling our impact to $18,183.26. This effort will provide approximately 72,127 meals to our neighbors in Livingston County. We are immensely grateful for everyone's support during this holiday season.
