Dear Hutchings Community,
It's the first newsletter for 2023, and as students return from Holiday Break, I noticed a lot of goal-setting activities for our Huskies. Setting goals is so valuable. It helps us to reflect on the past, to consider positive changes and possibilities, and to make plans and build momentum that lead to successes.
Please talk with your Husky student about any goals they have for the remainder of this school year. See if they have some short-term goals and some long-term goals. Talk about the strategies they have. Sometimes, great goals fade too early when there isn't a concrete plan to attain them. Maybe you could help with some plans, too.
I practice what I preach. I've got plenty of goals for the remainder of this school year, too. I have goals related to engaging our wonderful community and bringing new opportunities to our building. I have goals that involve collaborating with our amazing staff to make our systems and practices even more positive and powerful for kids.
Goal-setting also involves reflection. I worry about sounding repetitive, but I do want to thank all of the families and teachers for welcoming me to the Hutchings family. When 2022 began, I didn't know Hutchings Elementary. As 2022 ends, it feels incredible to be in a building with so many good things happening. It feels incredible to have things to offer all of you- especially after you have been so welcoming to me.
Let's make 2023 even greater.
Sincerely,
Ben Malecki
Principal

Quarter 2 / Semester 1 Report Cards
Report cards for Quarter 2/Semester 1 will be viewable in the PowerSchool Parent Portal on Tuesday, January 10 at 9 a.m. In addition to being posted in the Powerschool Parent Portal, you will receive an email with your child's report card on Tuesday evening. The email will read, "Attached please find your child's Quarter 2/Semester 1 report card from Howell Public Schools. To view this attachment, you will be prompted for a password. The password is your child's student number." Please contact our office if you do not know your child's student number.
Transportation Updates
The district continues to deal with staffing shortages in the Transportation Department. This is an issue districts are dealing with in both Livingston County and around the state. Please know the district is aggressively recruiting new drivers through various methods of advertising and recruiting. The staffing shortage has resulted in some route cancellations, which have led to longer drop-off and pick-up times at our school. As the district works to hire and train new bus drivers, please plan a few extra minutes if you are driving your child. If you know anyone interested in becoming a bus driver, please have them visit www.BeABusDriver.com to learn more or apply.
