Northwest News 10/17/2025

Dear Northwest Families,

As we wrap up the first quarter, it’s amazing to think about how much our students have grown already this year. Classrooms are filled with energy, progress, and a real sense of community. The changing seasons always seem to mark a new rhythm in the school year—students are settling in, routines are stronger, and learning is in full swing.

With the cooler weather approaching, we’re also in that “in-between” time when mornings are chilly and afternoons can feel more like summer. This means lots of coats on… coats off… and sometimes coats left behind! To help us get items back to their rightful owners, please make sure your child’s name is written somewhere inside their coat or sweatshirt. Our lost and found has already started to fill up, and labeled clothing makes a world of difference.

I also want to take a moment to talk about attendance. Every day of school truly matters. When students are here consistently, they not only learn more—they build stronger friendships, feel more connected, and gain confidence in themselves. Of course, we understand that illnesses and family needs come up, but being present whenever possible has such a powerful impact on a child’s success. Thank you for all you do to get your kids here each day and ready to learn.

Let’s keep soaring together as we head into the next quarter—strong, united, and proud to be Northwest Eagles!

Yours in education,

Craig Munro

Principal

Halloween Parade - NO MASKS

As we look ahead to our upcoming Halloween Parade, we want to remind families that costume masks will not be allowed during the parade or classroom celebrations. In past years, some masks have been too frightening for our younger students, and we want to make sure the day is fun and comfortable for everyone. Students are welcome (and encouraged!) to wear creative, school-appropriate costumes that allow them to see clearly and participate safely. Thank you for helping us keep this a positive and enjoyable experience for all of our Eagles!

Start the Day with a Healthy Breakfast!

The Howell Public Schools Food Service Department serves a healthy and nutritious breakfast every day in every school building. A nutritious breakfast helps students stay alert, focused, and ready to learn throughout the morning. Thanks to the Michigan School Meals Program, school breakfast is free for all students. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:05 a.m. each day. Encourage your child to start the day strong with a delicious, balanced breakfast at school!

Help Make the Season Bright for Local Children in Need

Each year, the Christmas Elf Program partners with Howell Public Schools, Livingston ESA, Brighton Area Schools, and the local community to ensure a bright holiday season for children in need. Thanks to the generosity of families, staff, and community sponsors, last year the program supported more than 300 children from birth through eighth grade and nearly 100 high school students. You can help make a difference this year by sponsoring a child at https://bit.ly/47hT2z6 or by making a monetary donation at https://bit.ly/4q3GBOV, which helps provide gift cards for older students. The Christmas Elf Program is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. The deadline to sign up to sponsor a child is Wednesday, October 29.
