Northwest News 8/22/2025

Dear Northwest Families,

Welcome to a brand new school year! We’re so excited to have our Eagles back in the building and ready for another year of growth, learning, and fun.

The start of school is always a special time—new classrooms, new routines, and new opportunities. At Northwest, we want every student to feel safe, connected, and excited about being here each day. Our staff has been working hard to prepare classrooms and lessons that will challenge and support your child, while also building the kind of relationships that make school a place they love to be.

As we get underway, please know that communication is important to us. Don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, or ideas. We are partners in your child’s education, and your involvement makes a huge difference.

Thank you for trusting us with your children. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things they’ll accomplish this year!

Below are a few updates and reminders.

Drop-off & Pick-up Reminder

For the safety of all students, no adults are permitted on campus for pick-up or drop-off unless entering through the main office. Families should use one of the four approved options:

School Bus – Our safest and most efficient option.

Kiss-n-Go Lane – Morning drop-off begins at 8:30am; afternoon pick-up starts at 3:30pm for kindergarten (no older siblings) and 3:35pm for all others.

Kids Kare – Before- and after-school childcare is available.

Walking – Students may be dropped off or met at the southwest corner of the building (near Bower Street).

THIS DOCUMENT better describes the drop off and pick up procedures.

Thank you for helping us keep Northwest safe and running smoothly!

Attendance

Starting last school year, Livingston County has adopted a new process for addressing chronic student absenteeism. The goal is to support students and families early—before attendance concerns become serious.

Key points:

Attendance is tracked throughout the year, with clear thresholds for absences.

At certain points (10, 20, 25, 35 absences, etc.), schools will meet with students and families to create or update attendance plans.

Resources, such as community supports and “School Attendance Accountability Nights,” will be offered to help families address challenges.

In rare cases where attendance does not improve, referrals may be made to the county truancy officer or prosecutor.

It’s important to note that absences are not labeled “excused” or “unexcused” for truancy purposes—what matters most is making sure students are in school consistently and making progress socially and academically.

At Northwest, we want every student to be present, engaged, and successful. If your family is experiencing challenges that affect attendance, please reach out—we are here to help.

Help Us Return Lost Items Quickly

As the weather cools, students are bringing jackets, sweatshirts, and other belongings to school. We ask that you please label your child’s items with their name.

When items are labeled, we are able to return them to students almost 100% of the time. Without a name, they often end up in the lost and found. A quick label makes a big difference!
