Northwest News 1/17/2025

Dear Northwest Families,

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through January! This month has been full of learning and growth, and we’re excited to share updates, upcoming events, and important reminders with you in this newsletter.

From classroom highlights to upcoming opportunities for your Eagles, there’s a lot to celebrate and prepare for as we continue the journey through this school year. Thank you for staying connected and involved—your partnership truly makes a difference!

SCHOOL BOARD

This month, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible support and leadership of our Northwest School Board. Their dedication to our students, staff, and community is instrumental in helping our Eagles soar to new heights.

From championing resources that enhance learning to guiding the vision for our schools' future, their commitment makes a meaningful impact on our children’s education and success.

Please join us in expressing gratitude to our School Board for their unwavering service to our Northwest community. Together, we achieve greatness.

ATTENDANCE

The countywide truancy and school attendance process has been updated with a stronger focus on reducing student absences. While it’s important for students to stay home when they are ill, there are times when they could attend school but are kept home unnecessarily.

The new process starts out with letters, meetings, and making plans to help reduce your child's absenteeism.  After those steps have been exhausted, a meeting with the Superintendent and Truancy Officer could lead to more of the traditional formal truancy process.

I share this information not to alarm you, but to emphasize the importance of consistent attendance. Together, we can ensure students are present and engaged in their learning.

ELECTRONICS POLICY

As technology continues to play an increasingly important role in our lives, we kindly remind you of our District’s policy on electronics. All wireless communication devices, including those capable of texting, calling, or accessing the internet, should either be left at home or securely stored in the student’s locker during the school day. This policy helps reduce distractions and allows students to focus on their learning.

If you need to get in touch with your child during school hours, please contact the main office. You can leave a message or, if necessary, arrange for your child to come to the office to speak with you. Thank you for your cooperation in supporting a focused learning environment for all students.

PTO FIELD TRIP

Thanks to the funds raised during the PTO Color Run, our PTO has generously offered to take the entire student body to the Howell Library to see The Lorax. The field trip is tentatively scheduled for March 7th. To prepare, we need to gather permission for the trip because of the movie's PG rating.

As per Board Policy, any movie rated above G requires parent permission for students in grades K-5. If you choose NOT to allow your child(ren) to attend due to the movie's rating, please complete THIS FORM. If you give permission for your child(ren) to attend, no action is needed.

Yours in education,

Craig Munro

Principal
