Dear Northwest Families,
As we move into March, it’s hard not to feel the shift that comes with this time of year. The days are getting a little longer, routines are well-established, and students are really settling into their learning. This is an important stretch of the school year, and one where consistency and attendance matter more than ever.
With that in mind, I want to share some upcoming dates and a few reminders that will help our students be as successful as possible.
In April, our 3rd–5th grade students will participate in M-STEP testing. Grades 3–5 will test on April 14 and April 21, and our 5th graders will have additional tests on April 16 and April 23. We ask that you do everything you can to have your child at school on those days. When students are present for their scheduled testing sessions, it helps avoid make-ups, which can be stressful for students and disruptive to their regular learning routines. A good night’s sleep, a solid breakfast, and reassurance that we simply want them to try their best all go a long way.
Along those same lines, attendance continues to be a major focus for us as we move through the spring. If you know that your child will be absent for an extended period of time, please reach out and let us know ahead of time whenever possible. Early communication allows us to plan, support your child, and stay connected while they are away. Even when absences can’t be avoided, working together makes a big difference.
March is a busy but exciting month at Northwest. Teaching and learning remain our top priority, and our staff continues to work hard to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Thank you for your continued partnership, communication, and support. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need anything—we’re in this together.
Yours in education,
Craig Munro
