Dear Northwest Families,
Spring is in the air! Now that the weather is improving, and we are embarking on our final two months of school, there are so many exciting events to look forward to: field trips, field day, etc. Please be paying close attention to your email, correspondence from your teacher, and our facebook page to make sure your student doesn’t miss out on any worthwhile activities and programs!
As you likely know, a total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, April 08, 2024. Even though Howell is not in the path of totality, this is still a very exciting astronomical event. However, the risk of eye injury to everyone, especially children who may not understand that the danger of looking directly at the sun is heightened during an eclipse. In Howell, the eclipse will begin at 2:40 p.m., reach near totality around 3:15 p.m., and end by 4:20 p.m. During this time, children are transitioning to their homes, after-school activities, and after-school care, which presents a challenge in providing sufficient adult supervision. Please remind your child that at no time will it be safe to look at the sun without the protection of authentic and properly certified eclipse viewing glasses. To learn more about our district's plan for the eclipse, please visit https://bit.ly/49vnKTf.
While this next springtime event is not necessarily “fun,” it is very important for our school and our district: M-STEP testing. Over the next couple weeks, our 3rd - 5th graders will be completing the state mandated M-STEP assessment. Please make note of these dates, and make sure your student is in attendance and well-rested:
5th Grade - 4/9, 4/10, 4/16, 4/18, 4/23, 4/24
4th Grade - 4/30, 5/2, 5/7
3rd Grade - 4/23, 4/24, 4/30
The deadline to order a yearbook is Monday, April 8th. To purchase, please go to ybpay.com and use the yearbook ID code: 12175024. Please let us know if this is too much of a financial burden, and we will ensure your student(s) get a yearbook.
Yours in education,
Craig Munro
