Northwest News 9/8/2023 (1)

Dear Northwest Families,

This year is off to a fantastic start! Our students have learned our important routines and expectations, and they are maximizing every learning opportunity. Our hallways have been bustling with energy and excitement as the students continue to grow their love for learning!

LOC STUDENT-RUN CREDIT UNION

Our Student-Run Credit Union (LOC) is back! 5th grade students run our LOC and perform various duties and positions available at banks and other financial institutions. K-5 students who bank at the LOC learn real-life lessons in savings and finance. Take a few minutes to check out this informational VIDEO and encourage your student to sign-up!

HALLOWEEN - MASKS

Just a reminder that we will not be allowing masks this year during our Halloween celebrations.

BIRTHDAY BOOKS

Thanks to our wonderful community and PTO, we are able to give each student a free book from our book vending machine.  We will be calling students down on their birthday and handing them a coin to use to get a book.  Students may hold onto the coin if they don’t see a book that excites them.  If your student has a summer birthday, we will be celebrating with them on their “half” birthday.

ParentGuidance.org Provides Free Resources for Families

Thanks to the Livingston Educational Service Agency, all families in Livingston County continue to have free access to many resources through ParentGuidance.org. As we get back into the school year routine, below are two helpful resources.

School is back in session, and new routines are being established. Now that your child has been equipped with new school clothes and supplies, learn steps parents can take to prepare your child to navigate peer pressure. The September Mental Health Newsletter (English) (Spanish) talks about the power parental influences have on your child as you set clear expectations, encourage education and healthy friendships, and become a role model to your child.

If you are looking for more information on how you can support your child’s mental health, check out ParentGuidance.org resources, where you can access free courses led by licensed therapists on more than 50 topics.
