Northwest News 4/6/2023

Dear Northwest Families,

Spring is in the air!  There are so many exciting events now that the weather is improving: field trips, field day, etc. One of the flagship events for our district is the wonderful Senior Survivor.  Selected high school students are “locked in” the building and challenged to compete to raise money for a worthwhile cause. This year’s cause is a district initiative: The “Howell Hownds!”. The funds raised will go to supporting Talon and the other therapy dogs in school buildings throughout the district.

Please take note of couple exciting events to kick off the entire event:

Senior Survival Kick-Off Carnival 2023 -   This fun event takes place in the Howell High School Field House on Friday, 4/21 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.  There are blow ups and tons of things for young ones to do!  The cost is $10 to enter.  It is a great time!

Team RamPaige Soccer Clinic - One of our survivors is hosting a soccer clinic for students in K - 5.  The cost is $10 and occurs on Saturday, April 8th from 11:00 - 12:30.  Please see THIS FLIER for directions on how to sign up.

Northwest is hosting a Junior/Senior Survivor Movie Night! This is aimed at NW families, and free to enter.  There will be snacks and drinks available and donations are welcomed.  The money raised will be split among the 3 NW Junior Survivors.  (Each elementary has Junior Survivors that are supporting a Senior Survivor.)  Check our THIS FLIER for more info!

While every cause deserves attention, this one is especially important because the Howell Hownds will have a direct impact on and role in our building!

The next “event” is not necessarily as fun as the Senior Survivor information, but it is a necessary step each year.  Over the next couple months, our 3rd - 5th graders will be completing the M-STEP.  We break the assessment up over multiple days.  While students can make up the assessment on a different day, this causes them to miss out on the instruction in the classroom as they are making up the test.  The dates of the test are as follows:

5th Grade - 4/11, 4/12, 4/18, 4/20, 4/25, 4/26

4th Grade - 5/3, 5/4, 5/9

3rd Grade - 4/25, 4/26, 5/1

Yours in Education,

Craig Munro

Principal
