Northwest News 3/17/2023

Dear Northwest Families,

We are one week away from a much-deserved break! I hope you enjoy some time away from school to relax and recharge. When we get back to school, we have all things “spring” to look forward to: warmer weather, extended time outside, and spring activities.

M-STEP

Shortly after Spring Break, we will be embarking on our annual M-STEP State Assessment cycle. We are required to test all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The testing dates are:

5th Grade: 4/11, 4/12, 4/18, 4/20, 4/25, 4/26

4th Grade: 5/3, 5/4, 5/9

3rd Grade: 4/25, 4/26, 5/1

We will be assessing the students in the morning and pausing/finishing before we go to lunch.  We will have make-up days if your student is absent, but please do whatever you can to have your child(ren) present at school on the dates listed above.

PLACEMENT CONSIDERATION FORMS

The Howell elementary schools have a process that allows parents to provide information to the school about their child that will assist in the placement of the child through the use of a Placement Consideration Form (PCF).  The form asks that you describe the educational setting, (academics, behavioral and physical) that you would like to have for your child without naming a particular teacher. It is important to be as detailed as possible stating the type of classroom environment that would most benefit your child. Example: structured, relaxed, hands-on, challenging, quiet, teacher-directed, etc.  Please note: When a specific teacher name is written on the form, the form will not be accepted or considered.

You can email me at [email protected] to request an electronic version of the form, or you can pick up a paper copy of the form in the school office beginning on Monday, April 3, 2023.  Forms will be accepted Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 14, 2023.

Remember that your child’s current teacher knows the learning style that best suits your child.

Meet Our Fifth-Grade Survivors

We are excited to have three of our fifth-grade students selected as Fifth Grade Survivors as part of the Senior Survivor program. From our school, our Junior Survivors are: Brady Lamb, Kaley Medelis,  and Ella Gendron. Over the next month, these students will be working to raise money for their team and Senior Survivor. This year, Senior Survivor is raising money to help place a Highlander Hownd therapy dog in each Howell school building and create a fund to help cover the costs associated with the care of these therapy dogs.  We are lucky enough to already know our Highlander Hownd- Talon!
